Role Summary

Director, Translational and Clinical Genetics. Lead hands-on data analyses and provide strategic leadership within cross-functional teams to identify, develop and deliver novel programmes of work to impact the GSK pipeline. Bring deep expertise in genetics and integration of genomics and clinical phenotypes to address translational questions with customised analyses and expert interpretation. Apply precision medicine approaches across therapeutic areas to inform target and biomarker discovery, disease understanding, patient subgroups, and treatment response. This role requires on-site presence at one of GSK’s US or UK sites (minimum two days per week).

Responsibilities

  • Harness deep expertise in genetics with integration of genomic (for example, genetic and proteomic) and clinical phenotypic data to undertake hands-on innovative translational analyses to impact the GSK pipeline.
  • Utilize translational expertise and collaborate with GSK scientists and physicians to identify, develop and deliver novel data-driven programs to aid drug discovery and clinical development.
  • Provide strategic leadership to cross-functional translational teams, with emphasis on project-based work across priority therapy areas.
  • Identify, establish and oversee external scientific collaborations focused on new data generation, access and analysis to catalyse translational insights relevant to strategic priorities; may include collaborations to deliver experimental medicine studies.
  • Communicate analysis findings with expert interpretation and recommendations to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Deliver objectives with focus and agility, applying strong statistical, analytic and critical thinking within a translational context.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and methodologies in translational genetics and genomics.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous professional learning within the team.

Qualifications

  • Required: Medical degree
  • Required: PhD or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., translational genetics, genetic epidemiology, biomedical statistics, computational sciences, bioinformatics or machine learning)
  • Required: Documented academic and/or clinical research publication history or history of medical practice in the fields noted above
  • Required: Broad clinical knowledge across therapeutic areas and experience of clinical research to investigate translational questions
  • Required: Hands-on substantial experience of working with genetic data and conducting novel analyses that integrate genetics with genomics (e.g., proteomics) and clinical phenotypes to deliver novel insights
  • Required: Demonstrated ability to design and deliver innovative analyses addressing a scientific question with expert interpretation and recommendations in translational medicine or drug discovery and development
  • Required: Experience and/or understanding of using relative and absolute summary measures to aid interpretation of group differences and clinical utility of findings
  • Required: Proficiency in at least one of R and Python, with a track record of writing reproducible and scalable code
  • Required: Demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences
  • Required: Excellent collaboration and partnership skills to work with cross-functional internal and external stakeholders
  • Required: Knowledge of drug discovery and development stages with understanding of biomarkers and precision medicine concepts
  • Preferred: Experience in development and leadership of experimental medicine and genotype recontact studies
  • Preferred: Strong leadership skills with vision and strategy to influence decision-making and drive activities from ideas to data-driven insights to portfolio impacts
  • Preferred: Experience setting up and overseeing external collaborations
  • Preferred: Experience working in different trusted research environments (TREs)
  • Preferred: Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and in multidisciplinary teams
