General Summary:
Leads a team responsible for the architecture, delivery, security, support, and continuous evolution of enterprise laboratory technology platforms (including laboratory OT such as information/cyber security, sensors, and IoT-enabled lab environments) across San Diego. Serves as the single accountable Research Site Partner for San Diego and the primary DTE relationship holder for the site SVP and research leadership, capturing and routing site requirements into the correct cross-functional platform backlog (Experiment Capture, Registration, LIMS, and peer DTE platforms in Research & Pre-Clinical, CMC/Manufacturing, and Supply Chain). Owns operational excellence, financial stewardship, risk management (including ~ $3M annual operating budget), local technology adoption, change management, and cross-site prioritization advocacy.
Key Duties And Responsibilities:
- Build relationships with senior business, quality, and DTE leaders; act as strategic partner.
- Lead, develop, and retain a Lab Engineering Support organization (including managed service provider model).
- Ensure stable, secure, and compliant lab technology operations across IT and OT aligned to cyber security, ITSM/ITIL, and DTE lifecycle standards.
- Primary accountability for laboratory technology partnering with DTE Compliance, Cyber Security, Internal Audit, and Quality Assurance.
- Own and manage site operating budget (planning, forecasting, vendor management, value realization).
- Oversee portfolio of programs/projects/platform releases and enhancements.
- Lead modernization (intelligent automation, agentic workflows, passive data capture, IoT-enabled instruments, connected labs).
- People management accountability.
- Act as site product owner/front door: capture requirements and user stories, shape into prioritized demand, and route to correct platform owner.
- Drive local adoption and change; provide regular roadmap/delivery updates.
- Represent site needs in cross-site prioritization forums; maintain transparent demand/backlog visibility.
Knowledge And Skills:
- Senior stakeholder engagement; enterprise technology operations and cyber security/ITSM/lifecycle practices.
- People leadership; program/portfolio/demand/financial management.
- Analytical/problem-solving, communication, executive presentation.
- Balance operational stability with innovation in regulated environments.
- Works in matrixed accountability model.
Education And Experience:
- 10+ years relevant experience (or equivalent).
- Leadership managing enterprise-scale technology platforms/support organizations.
- Experience in GxP- and SOX-regulated environments.
- Experience leading complex programs/portfolios/vendor ecosystems with financial accountability.
- Experience as product owner/business relationship manager shaping prioritized backlogs.
Pay Range:
$198,000 - $297,000
