Business Partnering & Sourcing Strategy
- Partner with R&D stakeholders, category leaders, Finance, Legal, Quality, Regulatory, Clinical Operations, and risk teams to translate priorities into executable sourcing strategies and measurable value.
- Establish ways of working, governance, decision rights, and communication routines across Procurement and business partners.
- Align sourcing strategies with R&D needs across discovery, preclinical, clinical development, clinical supply, technology, and scientific services.
Strategic Sourcing & Commercial Excellence
- Lead complex end-to-end sourcing initiatives: opportunity assessment, supplier market analysis, RFx, supplier evaluations, negotiations, award recommendations, contracting, and implementation planning.
- Develop sourcing strategies using supplier capabilities, market intelligence, competitive dynamics, total cost of ownership, pricing models, and business requirements.
- Strengthen contracting and commercial discipline via benchmarking, negotiation strategies, pricing governance, service-level expectations, risk allocation, and value protections.
Value Management, Analytics & Digital Enablement
- Use spend analytics, supplier insights, market intelligence, and business data to identify and prioritize opportunities.
- Deliver measurable value (savings, cost avoidance, demand management, supplier performance improvements, risk reduction, innovation, operational effectiveness).
- Build dashboards/KPIs and executive reporting for sourcing and value realization.
- Champion procurement technologies, automation, analytics, and AI-enabled capabilities.
Supplier Management & Team Leadership
- Lead supplier strategy/governance for critical R&D suppliers (performance expectations, executive engagement, scorecards, QBRs, issue resolution, continuous improvement) and manage supplier risk.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Strategic Sourcing & Value Management team.
Your Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Master’s with 5+ years relevant experience, or Bachelor’s with 7+ years.
- Minimum 5 years people/matrix leadership.
- 10+ years progressive experience in procurement/strategic sourcing/category management/supplier relationship management, including regulated life sciences/R&D.
- Proven success in category/sourcing strategy, complex negotiations, supplier evaluations, contracting, implementation, and value realization.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical R&D value chain, outsourcing models, and supplier ecosystems; commercial/analytical/financial acumen; ability to influence senior stakeholders.
Also Good to Have
- Experience with R&D categories (e.g., CROs, FSP/FSO, labs, bioanalytical, toxicology, clinical technologies, clinical supply, research services).
- Category management capability building, operating models, supplier governance/value management in global matrixed R&D.
- Procurement tech/analytics/AI experience and/or certifications (CPSM, ISM, APICS, PMP, Lean Six Sigma).
