Responsibilities:
- Establish process safety strategy for the global manufacturing network; provide leadership updates on sites and continuous improvement initiatives related to Process Safety Management (PSM).
- Partner with site leadership to create timelines for implementation of process safety recommendations and continuous improvement goals; jointly ensure timelines are achieved with Site Directors.
- Drive global network Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) efforts, capital project design reviews, process safety training, and other process safety initiatives.
- Design, develop, implement, and monitor a process safety roadmap focused on standardized processes, reduced risk, elimination of failure modes, and global compliance.
- Provide technical support to global sites on design and process safety issues.
- Lead continuous improvement of process safety culture (AbbVie’s ZBA philosophy).
- Lead process safety reviews during design and start-up for major capital projects; provide technical input for Requests for Capital Expenditure (RCE) to integrate safety/environmental aspects in front-end planning; lead hazard screening for Tech Transfers and New Product Introductions.
- Develop process safety KPI dashboards; stay current with industry best practices and Best Available Technologies (BAT).
- Support process safety elements of internal EHS audits.
- Lead and develop people (talent selection, development, performance management).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Chemical Engineering or other technical field (engineering or life sciences preferred); master’s preferred.
- Experience leading/coaching a diverse team.
- Ability to partner with and influence global senior leadership.
- 15+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical and/or chemical industries (engineering or manufacturing support).
- Demonstrated experience in process engineering, process design, or technical safety.
- 30% travel.
