Role Summary
The Director, Portfolio Strategy & Market Research works under the Executive Director, Portfolio Strategy to support strategic planning by delivering actionable recommendations based on market and competitor assessments, existing and potential.
Responsibilities
- Deliver strategic market and competitive intelligence insights, scenario planning and impact assessment through presentations and reports to enable effective strategic and tactical decision-making.
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on market participants’ products and positioning.
- Provide the market and competitive intelligence component of strategic planning and proactively recommend items for further consideration; monitor real-time changes to the competitive and market landscape and communicate impacts to the organization.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to enhance use of strategic analysis, market insights, and competitor intelligence.
- Maintain knowledge of factors and inputs that meaningfully impact commercial results in solid tumor oncology markets.
- Contribute to development of product revenue for early forecasting modeling of new indications up to 18 months prior to potential launch.
- Develop market research plans informing strategy, including qualitative, quantitative and competitive intelligence projects; execute market research to drive insights and recommendations.
- Communicate and align internal stakeholders around market research objectives and outputs; determine appropriate research methodologies.
- Lead market research projects, including vendor selection, design, execution, interpretation, and dissemination of results.
- Manage vendor partnerships, including negotiating costs, onboarding, accountability, and timely project execution.
- Contribute to strategic planning including situation analysis, market access plans, brand plans, and market assessments; present strategic plans to internal teams.
- Gather and synthesize data on consumers, competitors and the marketplace into actionable items, reports and presentations.
- Conduct in-depth assessments of new indications, including market viability, competitive landscape, drivers and barriers, and financial projections.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of data sources, evaluating their credibility and utility; leverage them across the company.
- Maintain knowledge of designated markets and trends through synthesis of reports, market research, data manipulation and financial modeling; create a Knowledge Repository for internal stakeholders.
- Utilize best-in-class methodologies to analyze market, epidemiology and statistics; drive survey design and analysis for ad hoc projects.
- Track and interpret customer trends and share implications company-wide.
- Provide strategic analytical support to R&D, Commercial, Corporate Strategy, Regulatory and BD on an ad hoc basis.
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders to identify needs and business challenges; partner with Commercial, Operations, Regulatory, Biostatistics, Corporate Strategy, IT, and Legal to address business needs.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biotech or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 12+ years of pharmaceuticals/biotech experience with qualitative and quantitative research in oncology/pharma markets, focusing on NSCLC and other solid tumors.
- Strong knowledge in Solid Tumor Oncology, Market Planning, Competitive intelligence, forecasting, and Lung cancer; ability to collect and analyze customer, competitor, market, economic and financial data; translate data into actionable reports.
- Experience developing and executing primary and secondary market research; global market research preferred.
- Proven experience leading end-to-end research projects (designing plans, synthesizing insights, presenting).
- Experience with advanced spreadsheets, patient-based forecast modeling including dynamic models.
- Experience facilitating competitive workshops; familiarity with TPP development is a plus.
- Proficient in online market research and database cataloging; strong communication and presentation skills.
- Proficient with PowerPoint, Excel and similar data tools.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, depending on business needs.
