Role: Director, Patent Attorney
Responsibilities:
- Identify, capture, and prosecute new inventions related to manufacturing and bioprocessing; prepare and prosecute global patent applications across cell development, cell culture, purification, assay development, formulation, packaging, and delivery; lead outside counsel as appropriate.
- Conduct patent landscape overviews, freedom-to-operate analyses, validity assessments, and patentability assessments for pipeline products; present findings to senior Law Department members and senior management.
- Lead US and foreign administrative patent actions (e.g., oppositions, third-party observations, inter partes reviews).
- Support due diligence projects, agreements, administrative initiatives, and policy questions.
- Advise on emerging legal issues, including monitoring and reviewing case law and legislative developments.
- Manage multiple competing priorities; handle a large, sophisticated docket with minimal direction.
- Provide exceptional communication across presentation, interpersonal, writing, and conflict resolution.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Ph.D. in the life sciences (e.g., biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or related fields).
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Admitted to practice before the USPTO and licensed to practice law in at least one state (member of the NY bar or eligible for in-house licensure in NY).
- 5–10 years of proven experience in a law firm setting preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the biological arts.
