Summary
- Lead strategic sourcing and procurement for Clinical Development, aligning with long-term organizational goals. Develop/optimize procurement processes, strengthen supplier partnerships, and ensure high-quality services at best overall value.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute Clinical Development category strategies (supplier identification, market analysis, supplier performance evaluation).
- Build/maintain stakeholder and supplier relationships; negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing.
- Identify value-creation opportunities via negotiation, volume leverage, and innovative sourcing models while ensuring quality and compliance.
- Ensure quality, ethical, and compliance standards; establish/monitor supplier performance metrics.
- Identify and mitigate supplier risks to ensure business continuity.
- Oversee supplier contract drafting, execution, and lifecycle management under contractual/legal/regulatory requirements.
- Monitor clinical research market trends, innovations, and regulatory changes.
- Collaborate with clinical operations, finance, legal, IT, and quality to align procurement with corporate goals.
- Use data analytics/performance metrics to guide decisions and measure procurement effectiveness.
- Guide cross-functional teams on category strategy benefits.
- Lead continuous improvement to streamline sourcing and optimize procurement effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree in business administration, supply chain management, procurement, finance, or related discipline; advanced degree or certification (CPSM, CIPS) preferred.
- 15+ years progressive procurement experience, including 5+ years in R&D Procurement leadership.
- Proven category management, strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, contract negotiation, and cost optimization.
- In-depth knowledge of Clinical Development categories (pharma/biotech).
- Experience building CRO relationships, evaluating suppliers, and negotiating complex agreements.
- Leadership experience in global matrix environments.
- Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills; excellent communication/presentation.
- Ability to identify/mitigate procurement risks.
- Demonstrated process improvement and use of technology to enhance procurement.
- Commitment to ethical practices, sustainability, and supplier diversity.
