About The Role
This is the operating leader for IT infrastructure and operations. Own the function end to end: infrastructure, cybersecurity operations, end user services, and IT service management as one integrated scope. Partner with a fractional CISO on security strategy and policy while owning operational execution. Work closely with IT business partner leaders and directly with R&D/scientific teams on infrastructure needs.
What You'll Do (first year)
- Consolidate the managed service provider portfolio across infrastructure, security, and the help desk into a smaller, accountable set of partners.
- Build a cybersecurity operations function from current contractor and MDR coverage.
- Establish governance with research/scientific computing; inventory and remediate AWS systems (ParallelCluster, other HPC, EKS/ECS, SageMaker, identity bridges).
- Own a formal identity and access management program with clean handoffs to IT operations and business partner teams.
- Refresh the service experience end to end and raise vendor management discipline.
Requirements
- 12+ years progressive technology services leadership; 5+ years Director/Senior Director level.
- Led multi-function technology services (infrastructure, cyber operations, ITSM) as an integrated scope.
- Partner comfortably with a CISO/fractional CISO on policy while owning execution; build security in partnership.
- Deep experience across AWS plus Microsoft Entra and Microsoft 365.
- Familiarity with scientific/ML computing infrastructure: ParallelCluster/HPC, SageMaker, EKS/ECS; DevOps and infrastructure-as-code.
- Track record managing MSP portfolios, with measurable consolidation/vendor transitions.
- Experience building infrastructure in fast-moving, resource-constrained environments.
- Experience in a regulated industry.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to have
- Biotech/pharmaceutical experience; FDA Pre-Approval/BIMO support.
- Stand up security operations from contractor/MSP coverage; scientific computing partnership.
- Hands-on MDR (RedCanary, Kroll, Arctic Wolf).
- Jira Service Management or ServiceNow at scale; public company SOX IT general controls.
Salary/Location
$260K–$300K plus bonus and equity. Brisbane, CA—Onsite.
