Responsibilities:
- Lead the buildout of inventory and cost of sales accounting, including scalable processes, policies, controls, documentation, and close procedures.
- Develop/manage standard costs; partner with FP&A for cost of sales budgets/forecasts; perform variance analyses; ensure inventory and cost of sales capitalization/valuation under U.S. GAAP.
- Serve as SME for inventory accounting, standard costing, cost of sales, valuation/capitalization/reserves, and purchase price & production variances (U.S. GAAP).
- Design/implement/optimize NetSuite-enabled inventory and cost accounting processes with IT, Finance, Supply Chain, Quality, and external partners.
- Oversee monthly/quarterly inventory and cost of sales close (reconciliations, journal entries, flux analysis, variance analysis, management reporting) supporting SEC reporting/disclosures.
- Partner with Supply Chain/FP&A/CM partners to understand manufacturing activity, inventory movements, cost drivers, and variance impacts.
- Provide accounting leadership for third-party manufacturing arrangements (inventory ownership, capitalization, costing methodologies, reserve assessments, contractual accounting).
- Establish SOX-compliant controls and audit-ready documentation for inventory and cost of sales.
- Direct physical inventory counts and reconciliations across third-party locations.
- Build team capabilities (recruiting, training, development) and support commercialization readiness (product launches, network expansion, inventory build strategies).
- Execute special projects as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance/Business or related.
- 12+ years progressive accounting experience with significant inventory and cost accounting in manufacturing/biotech/pharma/life sciences.
- Experience building/improving inventory & cost accounting for a commercial public company (quarterly close, audit support, external reporting).
- Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge for inventory and cost of sales.
- Strong ERP experience (inventory costing, manufacturing accounting workflows, implementations, process optimization).
- Experience with inventory/cost of sales close, audit support, external reporting, and SOX controls.
- Experience with CMOs/CDMOs and global supply chain networks.
- Supervisory experience (3–5 years) managing/coaching team members.
- Ability to lead through ambiguity, manage priorities, and influence cross-functionally.
- Ability to work independently and travel occasionally (including non-standard hours).
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA and/or MBA.
- Biotech/pharma commercialization experience (product launches, inventory build, outsourced manufacturing).
- NetSuite ERP experience and managing global inventory flows/complex third-party manufacturing networks.
Work Location/Conditions:
- Remote within the U.S. (not considering AK, AZ, HI, MI, TN). Travel to Cambridge, MA several times/year; ability to video conference and support reliable remote work.
Compensation:
- $188,000–$212,000 USD estimated pay range.
