Role Summary
Director II, Clinical Data Strategy and Operations (Multiple Therapeutic Areas) leads a global CDSO organization responsible for supporting assigned therapeutic areas within AbbVie’s clinical trial portfolio. Plays a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining the operating model, including talent acquisition, performance management, process development, quality control, continuous improvement, and change management. Collaborates across CDSO and R&D to ensure integrated, high-quality clinical data delivery.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for contributing to the design and development of the CDSO operating model and preservation of its integrity, standardization, economies of scale, and harmonization with a focus on clinical development efficiency and effectiveness.
- Develops and empowers a leadership team with operations and domain expertise, inspiring influence, co-creation, ownership, and accountability for execution.
- Ensures standards for talent acquisition and development within CDSO to differentiate the operations workforce and build future leaders and influencers.
- Develops a culture that encourages questioning norms, intrapraneurship, debate, and strong execution, while promoting work-life balance.
- Maintains speed and quality by applying the CDSO operating model to maintain flexibility and agility in volatile environments.
- Oversees global operations resource allocation across employees, contractors, and service providers, balancing prioritization, forecasting, demand fluctuations, and talent variation.
- Maintains awareness of competitor activity and participates in industry consortiums as a representative of AbbVie.
- Contributes to strategic roadmaps with CDSO peers and R&D, validating strategies and shepherding strategy to execution.
- Represents AbbVie with regulatory authorities and contributes to policy discussions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees (MBA, PhD) preferred
- 12+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or as an operations leader in a relevant industry
- Broad business orientation with advanced operations philosophy and methodology
- Crisp, clear written and oral communication
- Neutral mindset with ability to gather evidence, understand opposing viewpoints, and drive results
- Ability to model and manage performance behaviors and mentor others by example
