The Opportunity
Director, HR Business Partner (San Francisco; at least 3 days/week in office)
What Youβll Do
- Own HR business partnership and people plan execution for assigned client groups, translating business priorities into talent and organizational actions.
- Advise functional leaders and people managers on people strategy, leadership practices, team effectiveness, performance management, and employee experience.
- Coach leaders/managers on communication, feedback, performance expectations, engagement, accountability, and values-aligned decision-making.
- Partner with HR centers of excellence to deliver integrated solutions.
- Support organizational effectiveness and workforce planning (workforce data, employee feedback, benchmarks), including org design, role clarity, team structure, resource needs, hiring sequencing, capability gaps, and scaling decisions.
- Support talent processes: performance management, talent reviews, succession and development planning, retention strategies, and engagement initiatives.
- Coach managers on talent development, career growth, feedback, and performance conversations.
- Support change management and employee relations: guide leaders through organizational changes and transitions; advise on sensitive employee relations/performance/workplace issues and escalate appropriately; maintain confidentiality and sound judgment.
- Use HR metrics and business context to recommend actions; support implementation of HR programs/policies and contribute to HRBP tools/processes/leader enablement.
Who You Are / Qualifications
- Bachelorβs degree required; advanced degree in HR/Business/Org Dev/I/O Psychology/MBA or related preferred.
- 8+ years progressive HR experience; 10+ years preferred, including HRBP in complex, matrixed, high-growth/evolving organizations.
- Deep oncology industry experience required (supporting oncology-focused biotech/pharma; talent/org/workforce planning/operating model challenges for oncology development & commercialization).
- Demonstrated consultative HR support across talent, performance, workforce planning, org effectiveness, employee relations/experience, and change management.
- Strong knowledge of organizational/team effectiveness, talent processes, performance management, leadership development, and change management.
- Strong coaching, facilitation, problem-solving, communication, relationship-building, follow-through; sound judgment and ability to navigate ambiguity and sensitive situations.
Compensation/Benefits (as stated)
- Expected salary range: $195,500β$272,500/year. Full-time employees receive compensation, bonus and equity, and benefits including health/welfare plans, non-accrual paid time off, holiday shutdown, commuter benefits, 401K match, and lunch each office day.
