Position Summary
The Director of Global Retirement within the Benefits COE is responsible for the strategic direction, governance, and oversight of all retirement and pension plans operating outside the United States and Puerto Rico. Serves as primary subject matter expert and decision-maker for BMSβs international retirement portfolio, ensuring compliance with local laws/regulations, alignment with global People strategy, and competitive, sustainable retirement benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, own, and execute global retirement strategy for international markets aligned to People and Total Rewards.
- Establish and maintain governance frameworks (global governance boards; local trustee/oversight committees).
- Monitor trends, regulatory developments, and market benchmarks to assess competitiveness, funding, and sustainability.
- Ensure compliance with local laws/tax/statutory requirements; partner with Legal and Finance on regulatory change.
- Identify and mitigate risks, including Defined Benefit plan buyouts and de-risking from inception to completion.
- Select, onboard, and manage retirement consulting partners, actuaries, asset managers, and third-party administrators; negotiate contracts and accountability.
- Partner with People Operations for plan administration and serve as escalation point for complex/high-priority issues.
- Collaborate with Finance/Treasury on funding strategies, actuarial valuations, and reporting; ensure employee communication worldwide.
- Mentor colleagues; contribute to Total Rewards capability development; engage senior stakeholders and governance bodies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelorβs degree; 11+ years in benefits with international benefits programs/administration.
- Experience across retirement and other benefits programs; analytical review of competitive practices; strong regulatory knowledge.
- Hands-on Defined Benefit funding/actuarial/buyout or de-risking experience preferred.
- Knowledge of HR principles/policies; lead project teams end-to-end; matrix/shared services experience a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; occasional travel.
