Role Summary

The Director, Global Medical Communications, Immunology is a dynamic, strategic leader within Global Medical Affairs responsible for driving the strategic planning and tactical execution of the comprehensive medical communications plan as a central component of the global medical strategy for assigned assets. The role oversees development, prioritization, and execution of medical communication and integrated scientific communication plans across tactics such as core content, platforms, training content, FAQs, symposia, congress materials, and medical education materials, in close partnership with Immunology strategy units. The role applies novel digital solutions, AI-enabled strategies, and digital tools to advance medical communication processes and materials, and reports to the Head of Global Scientific Communications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and be accountable for asset-level medical communication strategies and implementation within the integrated scientific communication plan, aligned with asset Medical strategy
  • Interface with cross-functional teams to provide scientific leadership and technical expertise across disease states, contributing to launch and life-cycle management of the Immunology franchise; collaborate to develop and execute integrated scientific data dissemination plans
  • Plan and execute integrated congress plans, oversee content/design of the Medical Affairs booth, create FAQs, generate scientific insights, organize scientific symposia, and conduct pre-con, post-con, and daily debrief meetings; apply AI where applicable
  • Develop and update medical communication materials (scientific communication platform, lexicon, core slide decks, communication plan, etc.)
  • Explore and pilot AI and digital technologies to optimize workflows, data visualization, scientific storytelling, impact analysis, and tracking
  • Use Project Management digital tools to plan, execute, and monitor projects
  • Integrate AI-powered assistants (e.g., Microsoft 365 Copilot) to support scheduling, reminders, and rapid query responses
  • Provide mentorship or matrix management of global medical communications colleagues, fellows, managers, and senior managers
  • Oversee budget, financial forecasting, and vendor management for assigned assets; track spend and deadlines using digital tools
  • Stay updated with Medical Communications best practices and AI advancements, integrating them into Scientific Communication strategies
  • Coordinate with Group Lead to monitor performance and delivery of medical communications plans
  • Serve as medical approver during formal review of medical materials; collaborate with Legal and Regulatory to resolve questions and approve promotional and non-promotional materials
  • Explore digital tools, including AI, to accelerate material review and approval

Qualifications

  • A relevant healthcare degree is required. A medical or scientific degree (MD, PharmD, PhD, RN, MS, etc) is preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, preferably within a matrix structure and medical affairs roles; for candidates with doctoral degree; minimum 10 years for candidates with a master's degree
  • Experience in medical communications strategy, planning, and execution
  • Strong collaborator able to inspire teamwork
  • Prior experience in medical dermatology preferred
  • Experience in leveraging AI tools and/or digital technologies in scientific communications
  • Critical thinker able to understand complex scenarios and priorities
  • Familiarity with international regulatory and legal guidelines regarding medical communication strategy and execution
  • Up to 20% travel for congresses and offsite meetings may be required
