Role Summary

Strategic, deal-oriented healthcare analytics professional to lead forecasting in support of AbbVie’s Business Development efforts. This role partners with the Pipeline Commercialization & Strategy Forecasting team to implement modeling and analytics enhancements and ensure close alignment between BD and Pipeline forecasts. The role leads a team of forecasters and requires strong analytical and financial acumen, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to develop recommendations with incomplete information.

Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibility is to lead the team that develops net sales forecasts and commercial P&Ls to support external business development opportunities across AbbVie’s therapeutic areas.
  • Maintain market knowledge: develop and maintain knowledge of key commercial and scientific trends; partner with commercial leadership to envision future markets and how external partnerships can advance them; stay abreast of industry and therapeutic area trends.
  • Establish relationships with internal partner functions outside of PCS/BD to support forecast assumptions (e.g., Business Development, Search and Evaluation, Analytics & Performance Excellence, PCS Price Forecasting, Global Epidemiology).
  • Direct the team to design, build, and operate forecast models; develop competitive intelligence; shape primary research activities and secondary data searches; develop therapeutic area overviews, market assessments, and forecasts; provide fact-based commercial analysis to support go/no go decisions; forecast sales and profits under various scenarios; identify uncertainties and quantify risks; align P&L assumptions with internal stakeholders; provide P&L support for the broader team; create deal overview presentations for senior leadership.
  • BD/PCS Analytics Partnership: maintain and implement the data strategy for the PCS & BD Forecasting teams; stay current with analytical tools and data sources; license tools and data as needed; collaborate cross-functionally to obtain data access; serve as an internal data/analytics consultant.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field; MBA or advanced degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Required: 10+ years of healthcare commercial analytics/finance experience, ideally in pharmaceuticals, with expertise across a broad range of data sources and analytical techniques.
  • Required: 5+ years of manager-level experience in these disciplines.
  • Required: Strong organization, communication, and management skills; strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience across multiple therapeutic areas; immunology experience preferred; strong grasp of financial modeling (P&L) and pharmaceutical market dynamics; cross-functional collaboration experience; excellent written and verbal communications at all seniority levels; knowledge of clinical development, regulatory issues, and market dynamics in pharma; primary and secondary market research experience; proficiency with data sources (e.g., IMS, pricing, longitudinal data); comfort with scientific literature; strong planning and prioritization skills; ability to work independently to meet deliverables; strong analytical and strategic skill set; advanced Excel and PowerPoint capabilities; demonstrated creativity, resourcefulness, and motivation; collaborative, deadline-driven team player.
