Role Summary

Director of AI & Automation to join the Finance Transformation team. Responsible for driving AI & Automation programs across the Finance organization, leading the design and development of POCs, identifying POCs, and scaling initiatives. Set strategy and align Finance goals with enterprise vision. Lead implementation of AI models to automate processes and accelerate operational transformation within Finance, and collaborate with BTS to promote data democratization and GenAI skills.

Responsibilities

  • Defining and driving a comprehensive data and AI strategy for the Finance function that aligns with both Finance and Enterprise goals.
  • Building and leading a Finance AI & Automation enablement team to support business users across the Finance organization.
  • Ensuring that data architecture is used as a lens and a filter to identify, prioritize and execute the data and analytics initiatives with clear line of sight to enterprise strategies and business outcomes.
  • Creating a multi-year roadmap for Finance data and AI capabilities, including investments in people, processes, and technology.
  • Collaborating with the Data Strategy team within Finance Transformation and other business systems owners to rationalize the data environment across the Finance enterprise into a scalable, central data architecture.
  • Ensuring strong governance frameworks that support both centralized strategy and localized business unit needs.
  • Partnering with Finance leaders across all functional areas to identify and prioritize data- and AI-driven opportunities for value creation, including collaboration with Commercial and Operations organizations to align efforts.
  • Leading creation of training and communications to support the democratization of data, analytics, and GenAI capabilities.
  • Cultivating a high-performance, collaborative culture focused on innovation, delivery, and measurable business impact.
  • Mentoring and developing talent to grow organizational data and AI capabilities internally, sustainably.
  • Building strong relationships across Finance and BTS and BU-specific teams to ensure coordination and adoption.
  • Ensuring AbbVie’s data is safe, secure, and managed in compliance with global regulations and company standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 9+ years of progressive leadership experience with a recent focus on data and AI leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of data strategy, architecture, and operations, with proven success designing and executing enterprise data initiatives that deliver measurable operational and financial value including exposure to emerging technologies such as agentic AI platforms.
  • Strong financial acumen and familiarity with financial systems and processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills.
  • Solid business judgment capable of driving a diverse organization to the right results with a focused, pragmatic approach.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional leadership skills and ability to influence individuals significantly senior to self.
  • Demonstrated executive presence and ability to represent AbbVie Finance in a professional manner with senior executives and external partners.
  • Experience interacting independently with senior leadership on strategic, tactical and confidential issues that have both immediate and long-term business impacts.
  • Demonstrated project management ability of multiple simultaneous projects with many moving pieces.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, adaptable to last-minute changes in requirements or priorities.
  • Ability to get results through collaboration and coordination with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Advanced analytical and process diagnostic skills and the ability to get into the details, while also understanding and driving the full team to achieve results in line with the “big picture” objectives.
  • Conflict resolution capabilities, particularly in finding common ground for win/win solutions in a matrixed environment.
  • Ability to deliver feedback, recognize strong performance, and also recognize when corrective action would benefit individual and group performance.
