Position Summary:
Director, Enterprise Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) responsible for establishing and leading enterprise-wide EH&S strategy, governance, and core programs across global operations to protect employees, support business objectives, and ensure compliance with environmental, occupational health, and safety regulations.
Key Accountabilities:
- Develop and execute enterprise EH&S strategy; establish global EH&S governance (standards, policies, procedures, performance expectations).
- Identify, assess, prioritize, and mitigate enterprise EH&S risks; advise executive leadership on performance, emerging risks, regulatory developments, and resourcing.
- Lead EH&S governance committees; foster safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Lead enterprise EH&S programs including chemical safety/hazardous materials, industrial hygiene, laboratory safety, biosafety, bloodborne pathogens, ergonomics, hazard communication, SDS governance, product stewardship, CLP/global labeling, incident investigation & corrective actions, contractor/third-party governance, emergency preparedness, environmental compliance, and EH&S audit/assurance.
- Provide regulatory compliance/technical leadership; develop exposure assessment strategies and risk-based controls; support inspections and agency interactions.
- Provide functional leadership to site EH&S leaders; share best practices; manage external consultants.
- Partner with R&D and operations teams to integrate EH&S into projects, changes, capital initiatives, and sustainability.
- Maintain standards and documentation; design training; establish metrics and reporting; advance management systems/digital tools/analytics; support ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 alignment.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science/Engineering, Public Health, Chemistry, Biology, or related.
- 10+ years progressive EH&S experience (enterprise/regional/multi-site).
- Experience developing enterprise EH&S standards, governance, and risk management.
- Experience in regulated biotech/life sciences/healthcare environments.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. OSHA and environmental regulations; familiarity with international EH&S.
- Matrix leadership/influence with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Proven success driving organizational change and safety culture.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree; CIH/CSP/CHMM (or equivalent).
- Biotech/life sciences/pharma/medical device experience.
- Expertise in chemical safety, industrial hygiene, lab safety, biosafety/biological hazard control.
- Product stewardship, SDS management, hazard communication/CLP; familiarity with REACH.
- ISO 14001/45001 experience; enterprise audits and regulatory inspections; managing external consultants.
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong technical expertise; exposure assessment and risk-based controls.
- Ability to interpret complex regulations into scalable enterprise processes.
- Influence without authority; strategic thinking, judgment, and problem-solving.
- Excellent communication to executives; strong organization/project management.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid or on-site; 20–30% domestic/international travel; occasional work outside standard hours.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to conduct walkthroughs/inspections; travel; prolonged computer work; lift/carry up to 25 lbs occasionally.
