The Director, Discovery Research Scientific Insights is a senior scientific and strategic partner to Discovery Research leadership, delivering rapid scientific assessment, portfolio insight, and decision-ready recommendations on high-priority research, partnership, and executive matters.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with senior Discovery Research leadership on high-priority scientific, portfolio, and executive matters; question and advise the business on complex scientific issues.
- Rapidly assess urgent, complex scientific questions by framing issues, engaging experts, and synthesizing recommendations.
- Evaluate external research opportunities (rationale, feasibility, differentiation, risk, strategic fit) using end-to-end drug discovery expertise.
- Translate complex/incomplete scientific information into concise, decision-ready summaries, options, and recommendations.
- Maintain visibility into Discovery-stage external partnerships (status, milestones, emerging issues, decision points).
- Provide accurate, analytically rigorous, actionable external portfolio insights and executive updates.
- Drive cross-functional alignment to surface risks, opportunities, and recommendations for external collaborations.
- Support time-sensitive executive communications; anticipate emerging issues and develop options.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline (PhD preferred).
- 12+ years in pharmaceutical/biotech R&D with substantial Discovery Research experience.
- Deep knowledge of the drug discovery continuum through IND-enabling and/or early clinical development.
- Proven ability to evaluate scientific opportunities and translate data into senior-leader recommendations.
- Strong executive-level written/verbal communication.
- Exceptional judgment, strategic thinking, and ability to operate under ambiguity.
- Extensive experience evaluating external innovation/collaborations/partnered programs.
- Broad scientific curiosity across therapeutic areas and emerging topics.
