Role Summary
Director, Data Science & AI, US Commercial is responsible for generating and delivering data science and AI capabilities to enhance insights across Biogen North America Commercial. The role influences business partners, leads the execution and interpretation of AI/ML models, frames problems, and crafts data-driven solutions, while clearly communicating insights. It is dynamic, fast-paced, and highly collaborative, covering a broad range of strategic topics critical to the business. The ideal candidate has a passion for data-driven problem solving, a strong background in data science and AI, and proven experience building and leading high-performing teams.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for leading delivery of capabilities such as Resource Allocation, Measurement & Attribution of market mix, channel optimization, digital analytics, predictive models, decision engine/next best action, and Gen AI products.
- Lead the development and implementation of data-driven solutions using advanced analytics and machine learning techniques, predictive algorithms, and AI-powered tools to accelerate execution excellence and enhance customer and patient engagement / experience.
- Create vision that enables the productization and automation of internally built Data science and AI solutions
- Manage and mentor a team of data scientists (internal and external) and AI experts to drive innovation and deliver high-quality results
- Influence end-to-end delivery of data science insights, from framing the business question, designing the solution, and delivering recommendations.
- Collaborate with Insights in developing a cohesive data science solution, IT to set up and deploy LLM ops and ML Ops environment and cross functionally to embed the value of DS and AI into workflows
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data science and AI and apply them to improve processes and outcomes.
- Represent Biogen as a thought leader in data science and AI at conferences, events, and industry forums.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the enterprise, effectively communicating the value proposition of data science, and fostering a culture of using AI in decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy and security regulations and maintain high data integrity.
- Develop and manage budgets, resource allocation, and timelines for data science and AI projects.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in advanced analytics in US commercial setting, previous experience in a biotech / pharmaceutical organization, or in leading global management consulting firm
- Extensive experience in deep learning, unsupervised and supervised ML, AI techniques, Gen AI product development and Omni channel product builds, synthetic data, unstructured and structured data design for Gen AI products
- Minimum of bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering, economics, statistics, computer science, or related quantitative field
- Extensive expertise and experience with both traditional SQL and modern NoSQL data stores including SQL, and large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop and or working in Snowflake/Databricks
- Strong experience with machine learning technology, such as: big data stack, Python, R, and visualization techniques
- Experience with pharmaceutical data sources such as IQVIA, SHS, Claims, and other syndicated resources; strong understanding of Patient/Claims data (APLD)
