Director, Corporate Counsel, Early Research & Development

Role: Lead legal support for BioMarin's Early Research & Development (RED), partnering with scientific and business leaders to enable research collaborations, innovation, and strategic growth. Responsibilities: provide proactive legal counsel on research agreements, licensing, intellectual property, and transactional matters; negotiate and draft contracts such as NDAs, MSAs, MTAs, and collaboration agreements; support patent strategies and technology transactions; collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, IP, Compliance, Business Development, and Research teams; develop contracting processes and monitor legal/regulatory changes impacting R&D activities. Requirements: J.D. from an accredited law school, active U.S. bar membership, 7+ years legal experience in biotech, pharma, or life sciences, with significant expertise in research agreements, licensing, and IP principles; strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills; ability to translate scientific concepts into legal advice. Preferred: in-house biotech/legal experience, familiarity with academic collaborations, early-stage research support, and science/tech transfer; advanced scientific training or aptitude.
