Purpose:
The Director of Construction provides senior leadership and ownerโs oversight for all construction activities for a ~$500M pharmaceutical capital project. Ensures safe, compliant, efficient execution aligned with capital governance, quality systems, and regulatory expectations. Leads the construction management organization and oversees EPC/CM partners and trade contractors, integrating construction with engineering, procurement, CQV, validation, and operational readiness.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as ownerโs senior construction leader for all site construction activities.
- Lead ownerโs construction management organization (construction managers, field engineers, site supervision).
- Provide governance/oversight of EPC/CM contractors and trade contractors.
- Support constructability studies; set construction execution strategies, site procedures, and performance expectations.
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, CQV, and operations teams.
- Champion Zero Incident safety culture; ensure OSHA and EHS compliance; oversee contractor safety programs, audits, and incident investigations.
- Manage integrated master schedule (milestones/critical path), including schedule risk assessments and recovery.
- Oversee budgets/cost forecasts, change management, contractor claims, and construction risk reviews.
- Ensure construction meets specifications/standards/regulatory requirements; support CQV readiness, documentation/testing/turnover, and operational handover.
- Report to senior leadership on safety, schedule, cost, risk, and performance; manage capital expenditure reporting.
Qualifications:
- BS in Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
- 20+ years construction leadership experience (biopharmaceutical preferred, US).
- Experience leading $500MM+ mega-capital projects.
- Proven inclusive leadership for large cross-functional teams; strong executive communication.
- Experience managing EPC/EPCM contractors and global equipment vendors.
- Strong negotiation, risk-based decision making; ability to mentor.
- Travel within the US and outside the US for reviews/workshops/visits to vendor facilities.
