Role Summary

The Director, Development Program Management uses extensive program management knowledge and experience in the drug development industry to provide operational leadership, direction, and support to assigned development program(s) and/or portfolio(s). This individual drives the cross-functional development team (Strategic Program Team) to develop strategic plans including goals, budgets, timelines and monitor the execution of these plans from preclinical through commercialization/lifecycle management. Responsibilities may include coaching and mentorship of junior colleagues, managing direct reports, working with collaborators, and contributing to departmental initiatives. This is a leadership role within the department and organization, expected to independently execute responsibilities, interact effectively with senior leadership, and influence the direction and outcomes of assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Development Teams: Partner with the Global Program Head to drive strategic program teams (SPT) and sub teams by leading key governance meetings. Lead development teams around integrated project/program plans, timelines and budgets based on program vision; monitor progress and report to management; anticipate issues and drive risk management and issue resolution.
  • Business Acumen: Identify risks/threats/opportunities from industry trends and translate into actionable activities for development teams; leverage political savvy and team dynamics to drive decision making; proficient in project management planning systems (MS Project, SharePoint).
  • Communication: Develop credibility across the organization; adapt approaches in a cross-functional matrix environment; promote open communication, transparency, accountability, and learning from mistakes.
  • Problem Solving: Proactively identify and analyze problems; develop long-term solutions for cross-functional issues; implement lessons learned and best practices across programs and departments.
  • Leadership: Strengthen and develop high-performing teams; align team members toward common goals using conflict management and awareness of diverse team dynamics.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of in-house pharmaceutical program management with knowledge of the drug development process and understanding of clinical trials.
  • Preferred: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication; ability to interact effectively with all organizational levels; strong presentation and critical thinking skills; ability to promote constructive interactions; ability to resolve and negotiate conflicts with tact and composure; ability to manage multiple projects with exceptional organizational and time-management skills; ability to thrive in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments and handle ambiguity.
