Purpose:
Digital Manufacturing Tech Lead to spearhead design, implementation, and optimization of next-generation smart factory capabilities for the OTTAVA Surgical Robotic Platform. Drive technology strategy and digital transformation using Industry 4.0 (advanced automation, data analytics, IIoT, AI-enabled manufacturing).
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and lead digital manufacturing technology strategy aligned with smart factory/Industry 4.0 and business objectives.
- Define measurable KPIs and track program impact for scalability.
- Serve as principal technical assessor for digital manufacturing systems (MES, cloud platform, digital twins, advanced process control, Industry IoT, manufacturing data platforms).
- Establish reusable architecture/standards and execute technology roadmaps.
- Design and deploy connected manufacturing solutions integrating shop-floor (equipment, PLCs) with enterprise platforms (ERP, PLM, analytics, cloud, WMS).
- Lead/mentor engineering team; conduct design reviews and provide best-practice guidance.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, quality, J&J Technology, cybersecurity, and supply chain for end-to-end compliant digital solutions.
- Pilot emerging technologies (AI/ML, agentic AI, advanced analytics, digital twins, edge computing) to improve yield/productivity/quality/time-to-market.
- Manage system integrator/partner relationships; evaluate and select solutions.
- Monitor Industry 4.0 trends and recommend adoption.
Qualifications:
Required:
- BS required (MS/PhD preferred) in Engineering/CS/Manufacturing/Automation or related.
- 8+ years in manufacturing systems/automation/digital manufacturing with senior Industry 4.0 leadership.
- Hands-on expertise with MES, manufacturing data architectures, IIoT integrations, shop-floor-to-cloud connectivity.
- Demonstrated Industry 4.0 skills (IIoT, digital twins, advanced analytics, edge/cloud).
- Strong smart factory/process control/data-driven manufacturing knowledge.
- Ability to lead complex cross-functional programs; influence without authority.
- Communicate technical concepts to technical/non-technical stakeholders.
- Evaluate emerging tech/vendors/integrators and lead solution selection.
- Systems thinking in ambiguous environments.
- Experience across pilots, scale-up, and global deployment.
- Written/presentation/verbal communication skills; passion for mentoring.
Preferred:
- Regulated manufacturing experience (medical devices, pharma, or other highly regulated industries)
- Creative, proactive results orientation; strong analytical/problem-solving.
- Ability to validate key technological principles.
