Position Summary
Data Engineer supporting Global Drug Development (GDD) IT within Cross Study Operations and Specimen Management. Create innovative, reliable, secure data ecosystems across the full data product lifecycle (ingest, store, process, govern, interact) using deep data engineering, cloud, and GenAI expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with BI&T partners, cross-study operations leads, specimen management, clinical study teams, and data product owners to drive adoption of the data platform.
- Design/build/maintain scalable, production-grade pipelines and platform components for cross-trial aggregation, specimen tracking, and biobanking workflows.
- Develop/optimize data solutions for performance, scalability, interoperability, availability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Build ETL/ELT pipelines and data models using Databricks, Delta Lake, cloud-native tools, semantic modeling, and interoperability standards.
- Use Databricks Unity Catalog for governance, metadata, and end-to-end lineage; enable self-service data discovery.
- Build/deploy GenAI and NLP applications (e.g., RAG, fine-tuning, vector embeddings); develop/operate ML & GenAI models with Mosaic AI and MLflow.
- Provide documentation, technical recommendations, and mentorship.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2+ years hands-on Data Engineering/Analytics/AI-ML in cloud.
- Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Workflows, Mosaic AI, MLflow); certification a plus.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, Spark/PySpark; GenAI/LLM architectures, RAG, prompt engineering, agentic frameworks.
- Experience with ETL/ELT, data modeling/semantic analytics, DevOps; life sciences/clinical trial or specimen/biobanking domain preferred.
- Strong communication with technical/non-technical stakeholders.
