Position Summary
This role will play a key role in the architecture, delivery, and governance of reporting and data delivery. Hands-on technical role requiring experience in data warehousing and IBM Cognos BI, with emphasis on data architecture, sourcing, reporting, and analytics.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and enhance a modernized data architecture built on Microsoft Fabric.
- Define technical standards for medallion architecture, CDC strategy, Fabric pipelines, optimization techniques, and Lakehouse/Warehouse usage.
- Evaluate Spark vs. T-SQL warehouse design patterns.
- Oversee performance tuning to reduce compute consumption (CUs) across lakehouse notebooks, pipelines, and warehouse SQL objects.
- Lead migration of legacy SQL Server/SSIS processes to Fabric Lakehouse, Warehouse, and Data Factory.
- Re-engineer pipelines, stored procedures, and ETL frameworks into scalable Fabric-native solutions.
- Manage mirroring, CDC enablement, and ingestion performance for JDE and other enterprise systems.
- Validate/refine Silver and Gold ingestion (schema evolution, SCD Type 2, materialized view refresh logic).
- Design/maintain ingestion pipelines for financials, sales, inventory, and master data domains.
- Optimize Spark notebooks, Fabric pipelines, and delta lake tables; ensure CDC handling and bronze-to-gold transformations with dependency orchestration.
- Establish operational runbooks and streamline orchestration sequencing.
- Architect enterprise data models; support MDM modernization (Customer Master, Business Unit Master).
- Promote data quality, auditability, lineage, and governance using Purview.
- Partner with Finance, Supply Chain, Commercial, and Production teams; support month-end close.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelorโs or Masterโs in Computer Science/IS/Engineering or related field.
- 10+ years in data architecture, including extensive SQL Server and ETL/SSIS.
- Hands-on Microsoft Fabric: Lakehouse, Warehouse, Pipelines, Data Factory, Spark, Dataflows; Delta Lake, materialized views, mirroring, CDC frameworks.
- Strong medallion architecture/big-data ingestion understanding.
- Cloud-first modernization experience.
- Experience with financial systems, reporting, and month-end processes.
- Strong performance optimization (Spark tuning, SQL optimization, CU cost control).
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Azure Data Engineering or Fabric certification.
- Experience with Qlik Replicate, Azure SQL MI, Synapse, or Databricks.
- Data governance (Purview) and MDM frameworks.
- Experience with Power BI, Cognos, or similar analytics tools.
- ERP integration experience (e.g., JDE).
