Role Summary
The Customer Development Manager (CDM) is a field-based role within AbbVie Eye Care’s Anterior Segment Marketing. The CDM serves as the primary point of contact for regional brand teams, interacting with KOLs to gather on-label insights aligned to strategic plans for a specific therapeutic area. The CDM partners with franchise marketing leads and field leaders to help develop regional marketing plans and ensure execution is consistent with regional and national strategy. This role is field-based; candidates should live within a reasonable distance from a primary city and will be hired at a level commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
- Thought Leader Engagement and Development
- Interact with Ophthalmology and Optometry regional/local KOLs, emerging leaders, and state/local society leadership within assigned region to provide in-depth insights to Integrated Brand Team and commercial senior leadership based on brand key business questions that will provide input to marketing strategy, resource optimization and tactic development to drive brand performance
- Develop regional engagement plans in alignment with brand strategic plans and ensure consistent tactical execution throughout the year to drive key marketing engagement
- Peer to Peer Support
- Identify and recruit faculty and attendees for national series rollout and speaker training
- Consult with HCPs on peer to peer content development
- Provide training on HCP led slide deck content, updates, and how content aligns to brand strategy
- Uncover regional speaker program opportunities based on local market dynamics, provide guidance on speaker selection and content to align speaker to local audience
- State/Regional Conference Engagement
- Lead engagement to identify and maximize sponsorship opportunities across relevant Optometry and Ophthalmology state associations and other conferences within assigned region in alignment with marketing strategies to highlight AbbVie’s Eye Care Portfolio
- Identify key KOLs for regional and state conference product theaters
- Coordinate execution of all conference elements across appropriate internal stakeholders and agency support
- Marketing Initiatives
- Marketing lead for field competitive insights for the assigned region to help inform strategy and business planning for Anterior Segment IBTs
- Understand objectives and key business insights for advisory meetings, identify and recruit appropriate HCP targets for participation, attend and/or assist in ad board facilitation
- Responsible for understanding a specific geographical area’s market drivers, competitive landscape, and provider dynamics
Skills
- Must be able to manage effective written and oral communications with KOLs, including the ability to confidently represent and protect AbbVie’s interests during interactions and/or collaborations with external stakeholders.
- Ability to translate market trends, insights and competitive practices to draw key business opportunities and uses them to help develop strategic and tactical plans
- Maitains a working knowledge of industry information sources
- Strong collaboration and team orientation, with experience accomplishing results while influencing without authority
- Effectively track and manage the marketing budget. Manages conventions, speaker programs, and meetings within assigned budget.
- Consistently manage multiple projects to deliver high-quality work product in a timely fashion
- Always mindful of and adheres to regulatory and compliance guidelines
- Understanding of attributes of other AbbVie internal functional areas and impact of relevant decisions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Concentration in Science, Business and/or Marketing preferred
- 5+ years previous experience in sales, sales management, or marketing with at least 2 years of experience in Eye Care (preferred)
- Experience and proficiency in Public Speaking
- Proven experience meeting and exceeding assigned goals
- Ability to build relationships and interact with all levels internally and at the customer level
- Proven ability to build and retain customer base
- Ability to work within a budget
- Ability to comply with procedures and processes
Additional Requirements
- Travel up to 50% of the time including some weekends, with requirement for evening work
- Driving a personal auto or company car or truck, or a powered piece of material handling equipment
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet safe driving requirements
