Role: In-house Patent Counsel supporting AbbVie's pharmaceutical products within the Intellectual Property legal team. Primary objectives include developing and executing IP strategies to enhance competitive advantage, managing patent prosecution, and supporting business development through patent due diligence. Responsibilities involve drafting and prosecuting patent applications globally, managing outside counsel, defending and challenging patents in post-grant proceedings, and conducting prior art searches and patent landscape analyses. Qualifications: JD from an accredited law school, USPTO registration, and 2+ years of patent law practice at a law firm or life sciences company with experience in U.S. and foreign patent prosecution. Technical background in small molecules, biologics, or related biomedical fields such as biotechnology, chemistry, or biomedical engineering. Skills include strong legal, analytical, communication, and project management capabilities. High-Value: Focus on pharmaceutical patent prosecution, with potential exposure to biologic and small molecule modalities, and experience in emerging markets like India and China advantageous. Location: Hybrid work model in North Chicago, IL; Waltham, MA; South San Francisco, CA; or Irvine, CA, with onsite presence of 3+ days/week.
