Operations
Purpose
- Serve as primary Comparative Medicine Training Specialist/trainer for CA sites (Irvine, AbbVie Bay Area), leading training initiatives, ensuring compliance/competency, administering learning/operational systems, and supporting facility readiness and regulatory compliance for in vivo research.
Responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver instructor-led, hands-on technical training (laboratory animal science, animal care/use, vivarium operations, research procedures) using blended/hybrid models and LMS-based microlearning.
- Use gamification/interactive assessments, mobile learning tools (job aids, SOP videos), adaptive learning/AI sequencing, and learning analytics dashboards to track completion and competency gaps.
- Maintain training records/documentation for audit readiness and regulatory compliance; evaluate trainee competencies with managers/SMEs.
- Partner with Comparative Medicine leadership, EHS, and Facilities to promote safe/compliant animal care; support readiness for inspections/accreditation (USDA, AAALAC International, DEA) and manage training-related risk gaps.
- Coordinate vivarium access requests, verify prerequisites, assign required training, and run orientations; maintain access/training compliance records.
- Administer curricula/training matrices/onboarding; serve as Global Super Administrator for the AALAS Learning Library.
- Coordinate review/revision/publication of Comparative Medicine SOPs/controlled documents; support governance (version control/change management).
- Support PAM committee and other assigned process improvement projects.
Qualifications
- BS with 6+ years (or MS with 3+ years) relevant experience.
- Knowledge of lab animal science programs and animal welfare regulations.
- 3+ years developing/coordinating/delivering classroom, technical, and hands-on training.
- Experience with lab animal research operations, vivarium management, training programs, or regulatory compliance.
- Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a regulated environment.
- AALAS Certification, LAT or higher.
Preferred
- Degree in related life science/animal science/veterinary tech; extensive hands-on technical training experience.
- Experience evaluating competency and maintaining compliant training documentation; RVT.
