Role Summary

The Calibration/Metrology Technician ensures manufacturing and laboratory instruments work according to their specifications, repairs instruments, provides technical support to other departments (Maintenance, Packaging, Manufacturing, and Lab), and ensures good workmanship with minimum delay. If a calibration non-conformance is found, the technician will lead the tasks necessary for that impacted piece of equipment to be further analyzed, adjusted/repaired as necessary, and investigated accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Perform lab equipment Calibrations, Verifications and Tech support.
  • Repair and trouble shoot instruments.
  • Tech support to, PKG, manufacturing departments.
  • Read and review SOPs.
  • Provide Technical support to the laboratory chemist when they experience system malfunctioning, verify that the equipment is working as expected and make the correction if they are not.
  • Typical problems involve instruments/machines break down (call manufacturing, tech support). Must be able to prioritize duties to avoid production delay.
  • Complex problems involve schedule problems with owners of the equipment. If canโ€šร„รดt solve equipmentโ€šร„รดs problem internally, find solution externally (e.g., contacting vendor/equipment manufacturer).
  • Typical decisions this job has total authority for making include placing instrument (measuring, controlling, and indicating) in service or taking instruments out of service.
  • Typical decisions referred to others for approval include purchasing parts or instruments decisions are referred to others for approval.

Qualifications

  • An associate-level degree or higher in mechanical or electrical/electronic engineering, or a relevant scientific/technical field is required. Typical subjects include metrology (the science of measurement) understanding the difference between accuracy, precision, and repeatability.
  • Experience in laboratory systems such as UPLC, HPLC, and GC is a must.
  • Experience in manufacturing equipment is preferred that includes, but not limited to, pressure gauges, chart recorders, Rotating Process Equipment, Batch Controllers, Temp/Hum. controllers, HMI and PLC.
  • Must follow SOPs for testing and calibration of equipment in a strict manner.
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years of general technical work experience is required or combination of education and relevant job experience.
  • Teamwork - must be able to work closely with colleagues to accomplish team goals.
  • Computer literacy-Excel and Word, Empower, Citrix and troubleshooting, or diagnostics skills is essential.

  • Associate degree or higher in mechanical or electrical/electronic engineering, or a relevant scientific/technical field.
