Role Summary
The Battalion Chief β Eli Lilly Fire Department β Lebanon leads and coordinates the on-site emergency response team as Incident Commander and acts as shift supervisor. The role supports a 24/7/365 organization, interacts with multiple stakeholders, and is responsible for emergency response programs, fire safety programs, and associated site projects.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of assigned battalion and ensure all firefighters are properly trained and equipped
- Respond to all site fire, hazmat, and medical emergencies and assume command in the absence of a superior officer
- Provide functional leadership and ownership of HSE/FD programs to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and Lilly Global HSE standards
- Collaborate with the ELFD leadership team to define priorities and develop the FD roadmap, integrating cross-functional input and contributing to business initiatives, planning, and performance metrics
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of internal and external HSE/FD reporting requirements
- Support the technical and leadership development of HSE/FD team members
- Escalate FD issues appropriately to ELFD leadership
- Support and execution of the on-site emergency preparedness and response plan
- Participate in pre-emergency planning and assist in the implementation of the emergency plans with both on-site and local emergency organizations
- Inspect and maintain departmental equipment, supplies, and facilities to ensure response readiness
- Monitor activities to ensure conduct and performance conform to departmental standards
- Participate in the operation of departmental in-service training
- Ensure department and assigned shift is always audit ready
- In conjunction with Training Division, develop and implement training programs for firefighters, officers, and ERT members
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Experience: 10 years of firefighting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Certifications: Indiana or IFSAC and NER EMT; Firefighter I/II; Hazmat Technician; Confined Space Technician; Driver Operator / Pumper / Aerial; Fire Officer Strategy and Tactics; Instructor I; Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B)
- Skills Testing: Successfully complete stress test and Work Performance Evaluation (WPE)

- Supports a 27/7 operation; additional onsite presence may be required for testing, consultation, or emergency situations
- Position Location: US: Lebanon IN LP1
- Travel: Less than 10%
- Shift Information: Monday through Friday until department is operational; once operational, 24-hour shift schedule
