Role Summary
Automation Engineer at Lilly for a greenfield ATMP manufacturing startup in Lebanon, IN. You will provide automated design and oversight to the delivery of the new facility, collaborating with system integrators and supporting initiatives in lifecycle management, information management, and cyber security. The role focuses on automation governance, equipment architecture, and IT/Automation systems to enable GMP manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities
- Safety – Work safely and pursue improvements in personnel and equipment safety; ensure safe design and operation of new equipment; ensure automation design addresses safety concerns for operations and maintenance.
- Automation Design – Design and implement automation strategies enabling operators to interact with the process in compliance with cGMP batch manufacturing requirements; generate/update design SDLC documentation.
- Automation/Control Discipline – Support and enhance automated systems and equipment, adjust PID control parameters; perform solution assessments and performance reviews; support discipline through solution assessment, replication, and development; manage tools and implement engineering standards, master specifications, and best practices; provide technical coaching and facilitate shared learning; support projects and integration of new equipment/technologies; support automated system commissioning and qualifications; stay current on external trends to evaluate technology for Lilly.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
- Required: 5+ years of experience in automation or process control.
- Preferred: Experience with Emerson DeltaV Systems, Rockwell Automation, OSI/PI Historian, or related platforms.
- Preferred: Expertise in Rockwell Automation Platforms including FactoryTalk View SCADA and ControlLogix PLCs.
- Preferred: Knowledge of drug product and drug substance manufacturing processes; familiarity with plant utility systems and HVAC building management; IT/Automation integration.
- Preferred: Experience in pharmaceutical or GMP industry; OSI/PI Data Historian; Microsoft operating systems, virtual environments, and networking.
- Preferred: Strong communication skills with internal customers, business partners, and leadership; experience delivering automation projects, including major capital delivery; technical leadership on automation project delivery.

Additional Requirements
- Onsite position based in Lebanon, IN with relocation required; some work-from-home flexibility may be possible depending on business needs.
