Role Summary

Associate Vice President for Dry Products/Spray Dried Dispersions at Lilly, providing scientific and organizational leadership for the Dry Products/SDD portfolio. Drives technical product stewardship through hiring, developing, and retaining talent, and collaborates with key stakeholders to align deliverables and the technical agenda.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run the organization: determine appropriate technical expertise at the network level, close capability gaps through hiring and development, deploy resources to support dry product sites, manage performance reviews and development plans, conduct interim and end-of-year reviews, coach and mentor staff, lead recognition and promotion activities, lead talent assessment and succession planning, foster shared learning, and drive short- and long-term planning (objectives, budget, capital, capability).
  • Lead control strategy, commercialization, and tech agenda: collaborate with TS/MS, PR&D, Quality, Engineering, and Operations to implement control strategy expectations; ensure robust control strategies for new products; work with site teams to install validated processes; develop strong relationships with Development to support commercialization; build and scale pilot plant capability and ensure training.
  • Ensure TS/MS Functional Excellence at Manufacturing Sites: build functionally excellent TS/MS groups at each site; coach TS/MS heads; ensure trained personnel, recruitment, and succession planning; serve as the point of contact for manufacturing issues and escalate significant deviations, changes, and validations.
  • Foster a culture of safety & compliance: ensure regulatory and corporate policy compliance; implement safety practices to prevent injuries; monitor quality and regulatory expectations related to dry products manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Basic: BS in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy, engineering, chemistry, or related field. Masters or PhD preferred.
  • Experience: 15+ years in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Technical Services, or Product Development with at least 4 years of supervisory experience.

Skills

  • Understanding of cGMPs in manufacturing.
  • Strong written and oral communication; ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Technical leadership in Dry Product manufacturing; cross-disciplinary collaboration; robust problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of oral solid dosage form and dry product technologies.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to integrate multiple technology disciplines to drive programs.

Education

  • BS required; MS/PhD preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Environmental and Working Conditions: occasional access to manufacturing/processing areas with gases, noise, dust, chemicals, solvents, and heavy machinery.
  • Tools and Equipment: use of personal protective equipment as needed.
