Associate General Counsel, R&D Innovation Legal group (advises the R&D organization).

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic counsel to senior leaders on legal/regulatory issues impacting pipeline development and product innovation.
- Support Regulatory Affairs with critical regulatory filings and agency engagements relating to R&D issues for investigational and on-market drug products.
- Develop understanding of the Inflation Reduction Act and โ€œMost Favored Nationโ€ policies to advise R&D.
- Educate legal departments and business stakeholders on emerging laws, regulations, and industry trends impacting AbbVieโ€™s portfolio.
- Proactively identify complex legal issues; develop creative/alternative solutions and implement resolution.
- Proactively propose strategies to optimize outcomes.
- Advise Vice Presidents, Presidents, and Officers as a trusted expert.

To be successful in this role:
- Specialized FDA regulatory and drug development experience; demonstrated strategic counsel to pharmaceutical industry leaders.

Qualifications:
- J.D.; admitted to the bar in at least one U.S. state.
- 10+ years (12+ preferred) relevant experience (law firm life sciences, in-house pharma, FDA attorney, or combination; in-house/FDA preferred).
- Substantial expertise in FDA regulations/guidance for innovator drug development (exclusivities, orphan drug designations, clinical trial design/data, combination products) and familiarity with innovation policies.
- Government health authority interaction experience highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Inflation Reduction Act, Most Favored Nation, and CMS policies (plus).
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical laws/regulations; ability to work independently, lead cross-functional teams, manage multiple priorities, and communicate clearly to senior leaders.
- In-office 3 days/week in North Chicago, IL or Washington, DC metro area.
