Role: In-house Associate General Counsel leading IP due diligence for AbbVie's business development, including M&A, licensing, options, and venture transactions. Responsibilities: conduct comprehensive IP assessments—patent coverage, validity, enforceability, freedom-to-operate; analyze third-party patent portfolios and landscape; provide strategic legal advice to cross-functional teams; prepare due diligence reports; support negotiations; collaborate with external counsel and internal R&D teams on patent prosecution across biologics, peptides, small molecules, and devices; participate in technology assessments and strategic IP planning. Qualifications: JD from an accredited law school, active state bar, USPTO patent attorney registration; approximately 8 years of patent law experience, ideally in pharma/biotech due diligence; technical background in molecular biology, biotechnology, chemistry, or related fields. Preferred: prior experience in pharma/biotech M&A, licensing, venture deals, and biosimilar/generic portfolios. High-Value: focus on biologics, small molecules, complex biologics, and patent analysis within pharma or biotech transactions; involvement in strategic collaborations and technology evaluations. Work setup: hybrid model across North Chicago, Waltham, South San Francisco, or Irvine, CA, with 3+ days onsite.
