About the Opportunity
The Associate Director, TOPS Finance β Technical Development & Quality will serve as the primary finance business partner to the Technical Development and Global Quality organizations. The role combines strategic FP&A leadership, operational finance support, and cross-functional partnership to translate scientific, technical, quality, and operational priorities into robust financial plans and actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as lead finance business partner for Technical Development and Global Quality leadership teams; provide analysis, insight, and recommendations.
- Lead annual operating plan, forecast, and long-range planning for supported functions.
- Prepare executive-ready financial materials (variance analysis, forecast bridges, investment business cases, risk/opportunity assessments, leadership presentations).
- Partner with functional leaders to translate drivers (spend, headcount, capital, program activity, vendor commitments, timelines) into financial forecasts.
- Build and maintain financial models, scenario analyses, and KPIs for strategic options, cost efficiencies, and investment decisions.
- Provide financial oversight of operating expenses, capital investments, headcount, allocations, and project spend.
- Collaborate with Accounting, Corporate FP&A, TOPS Finance, Procurement, HR, Program Management, Technical Development, Quality, and others to ensure accurate actuals and timely decision support.
- Identify and implement FP&A process, reporting, and systems improvements.
Required/Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
- 10+ years progressive finance/FP&A/accounting/business advisory experience (biotech/pharma/life sciences or complex multinational preferred).
- Experience partnering with senior leaders on operating plans, forecasts, long-range plans, business cases, and resource allocation.
- Strong technical finance skills: modeling, variance analysis, scenario planning, KPI development, investment evaluation, financial storytelling.
- Preferred: experience supporting technical operations, quality, manufacturing, supply chain, R&D, CMC, or product development.
- Knowledge of financial planning, management reporting, internal controls, and link between operational activity and enterprise performance.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint; enterprise finance systems (Oracle, Hyperion, SAP, Anaplan, SAC, Power BI, or similar) strongly preferred.
- Bachelorβs degree in Finance/Accounting/Economics/Business or related; advanced degree and/or CPA/ACA/ACCA/CIMA/MBA preferred.
Location/Travel:
- San Rafael or US Remote (business needs permitting); occasional travel may be required.
