About This Role:

Axsome Therapeutics is seeking an Associate Director, Sales Training and Development to play a key role in sales training and development initiatives at Axsome. The Associate Director, Sales Training and Development will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Commercial, Medical, Regulatory, and Legal, to design and execute comprehensive training programs to enhance the capabilities of our sales force.

This role is based at Axsome’s HQ in New York City with an on-site requirement of at least three days per week. We are unable to consider candidates who are looking for fully remote roles.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Facilitate training programs for Axsome Specialty Account Managers, Regional Business Directors, and cross-functional field teams focused on enhancing product knowledge, selling skills, and customer engagement.
  • Design and lead market access training and account-based training initiatives, ensuring market access professionals, sales, and cross-functional teams can effectively navigate payer, access, and reimbursement dynamics.
  • Contributes to the creation and delivery of a leadership development track for existing and emerging leaders across the organization, fostering future-ready capabilities.
  • Ensure that sales teams are well-prepared to confidently communicate product features, clinical data, and safety information and to apply advanced selling skills that drive meaningful customer engagement and measurable impact.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (such as Medical Affairs, Patient Services, Market Access, Marketing, and Regulatory) to align training content with product strategies and compliance requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement innovative, scalable training and selling solutions that elevate field effectiveness, streamline knowledge transfer, and can be rapidly adapted across brands, markets, and customer segments.
  • Manage our LMS platform to efficiently deliver training content and ensure seamless integration of training materials and assessments within the LMS.
  • Lead training efforts during national and regional sales meetings ensuring that sales teams are equipped to effectively introduce new products to the market.
  • Stay informed about industry regulations and guidelines related to pharmaceutical sales and marketing, ensuring that all training content adheres to compliance standards and ethical practices.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of overall pharmaceutical industry experience with 2+ years of specific training / sales coaching experience; prior field leadership experience strongly preferred to support leadership development initiatives.
  • Up to 20% travel (Key Axsome meetings and POAs)
  • Strong project management and execution
  • Experience with vendor and budget management
  • Experience facilitating training in both classroom and virtual settings
  • Experience managing LMS platforms
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work on site Monday, Tuesday & Thursday. We are unable to consider candidates who are looking for fully remote roles.

Experience, Knowledge And Skills

  • Strong facilitation, presentation, and communication skills
  • Background in adult learning principles and instructional design
  • Strong understanding of CNS disorders and related therapies is preferred.

Salary and Benefits:

The anticipated salary range for this role is $160,000 - $180,000. We encourage candidates of all levels to apply as there may be flexibility on final job title and responsibilities. The salary offer will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, qualifications, internal equity and location.
