Associate Director - Medical Science Liaison - Cardiometabolic Health-Knoxville/Lexington

Purpose
- Scientific and Clinical Experts (SEs/CEs) support medical education and research within therapeutic areas; the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) program provides field-based medical professionals with deep disease-state and compound knowledge.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide scientific and clinical knowledge that addresses researchers’ and practitioners’ needs (e.g., clinical care gaps; nuanced clinical/research questions).
- Synthesize the latest research on products, disease states, and standards of care for specific indications and therapeutic areas; maintain technical expertise through continuous learning.
- Serve as a primary interface between Lilly Medical and SEs/CEs to support evidence sharing and improve patient outcomes.
- Connect SEs/CEs with other Lilly resources/internal partners and facilitate collaborative research opportunities.
- Partner with clinical development to accelerate pipeline and evidence generation aligned with site identification, selection, and recruitment.
- Analyze customer data; plan and prioritize to engage assigned SEs/CEs via face-to-face and virtual interactions.
- Implement a strategic territory plan, leveraging analytical tools; assume accountability for performance expectations.
- Maintain compliant partnerships across Lilly field roles sharing customers.
- Synthesize and communicate actionable customer/clinical insights to internal and cross-functional teams; use good judgment and escalate issues as appropriate.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
- Advanced degree in health sciences (e.g., PharmD, MD, PhD) with 2–3 years of clinically relevant experience.
- OR Master’s/bachelor’s degree in health sciences (e.g., BSN, RPh, PA, NP) plus 5+ years clinical, research, or industry experience in a relevant therapeutic area.
- Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis (Lilly does not sponsor work authorization/visas).
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

- Advanced presentation and computer skills; literature identification expertise; ability to service complex customer information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Self-directed field work; manages multiple priorities/projects.
- Strong teamwork/interpersonal skills with high emotional intelligence and relationship-building/networking.
- Resiliency; intellectual curiosity.
- Ability to leverage field-based tools and digital platforms to engage HCPs virtually.
- Learning agility to communicate complex scientific content clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated strategic/critical thinking to assess information and interpret impact.
- Live within the geography and near a transport hub (airport/train station).
- Travel up to 80% and weekend commitments.
- Strong preference: cardiometabolic health experience (cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity).
- Highly valued: field-based experience; familiarity with health systems, academic communities, medical research, and medical education.
