Position Summary
The Associate Director, Medical Communications supports the development and execution of strategic, integrated medical communication initiatives across marketed products and pipeline indications. Translates complex scientific data into clear, audience-appropriate communications that support Medical Affairs objectives, and contributes to scientific narrative development and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Assist in creation of integrated medical communications strategy and tactical plans for therapeutic areas, aligned to brand strategies and incorporating modern digital channels/tools
- Lead development of field-ready MSL materials (fit-for-purpose slide decks and other digital MSL tools); partner with MSL training and medical reviewer; manage/streamline MSL materials repository
- Lead development of tailored materials for other audiences (APPs, RDs, non-expert physicians, PCPs, patient advocacy outreach), including infographics, plain language summaries, short audio/video, podcasts, and other modern tools
- Partner cross-functionally to optimize medical digital platforms/channels/tools using functional KPIs
- Assist with internal medical communication materials (e.g., lunch & learn on posters/manuscripts); partner with publications as needed
- Contribute to development/maintenance of scientific platforms, scientific story, and lexicon for marketed and pipeline indications
- Support GI and Nephrology medical congress activities (booth/content, conference coverage, pre/post-congress overviews and reports)
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., commercial, clinical, biostats, publications, medical directors, field medical, training, medical review, medical information)
- Develop and maintain networks of HCPs who are digital opinion leaders
Qualifications
- MS degree; advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD) preferred; 6–8 years Medical Affairs experience in medical/scientific communications, publications, medical information, medical science liaison, or clinical research (or equivalent)
- Relevant pharmaceutical company experience; experience interacting with Field Medical teams desired
- Demonstrated ability to build/maintain high trust and collaborate effectively
- Proven ability to execute key projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines
- Ability to interpret, organize, and communicate complex scientific data concisely
- Strong project planning and management skills
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical and promotional compliance guidelines, laws, industry standard practice, and regulatory guidelines for medical content development
- Attendance at periodic national internal/external meetings and medical congresses
- Demonstrated customer-centered approach
- Up to 10% travel, including overnight and occasional weekend travel
