Role Summary

The Associate Director, Internal Investigations conducts global internal investigations related to alleged violations of the AbbVie Code of Business Conduct and other policies and procedures, and legal or regulatory requirements. The investigator contributes to training, communications, and proactive risk mitigation by collaborating with a range of stakeholders based on investigations activity worldwide. Leads company investigations involving alleged violations of the Code of Business Conduct, compliance policies, and/or the law, guiding investigations from intake to resolution and ensuring thorough, confidential, timely completion.

Responsibilities

  • Leading investigations from intake to resolution, including:
    • Reviewing facts and analyzing policy requirements and related documentation
    • Interviewing reporters, witnesses and subjects
    • Reaching conclusions and making recommendations on corrective measures to management
    • Conducting root cause analyses
    • Making recommendations to prevent and mitigate similar instances in the future
  • Working collaboratively with Legal when the investigation is performed at Legalโ€™s direction
  • Ensuring investigations are completed thoroughly, confidentially, and in a timely fashion
  • Developing an extensive network of global stakeholders to align on investigations approach and on specific investigations
  • Aligning with multiple stakeholders (Legal, local Office of Ethics and Compliance, Commercial, Business Human Resources, and EWR) to influence decision making related to outcomes
  • Owning stakeholder relationships, serving as the point of contact on regional trends and training opportunities
  • Contributing to the development of training, communications, and risk mitigation controls worldwide
  • Providing guidance on compliance policies and training; serving as a resource for investigation-related questions across the enterprise

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of legal or compliance experience, focused on FCPA, Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption, pharmaceutical promotion issues, privacy, antitrust
  • Prior investigations experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree required; CPA, CFE, Masterโ€™s, or JD preferred
  • Fluency in languages in addition to English preferred
  • Proven ability to communicate collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to build and maintain productive working relationships
  • Curious, unbiased, empathetic, action-oriented mindset; thrives in team-based environments; able to multi-task and exercise discretion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; strong analytical and conceptual thinking and sound judgment
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree required; CPA, CFE, Masterโ€™s, or JD preferred

Additional Requirements
