Associate Director - Global Process Automation and Control Engineering (Corporate)

Role Summary

Associate Director – Global Process Automation & Control Engineering (Corporate) leads the GPACE organization, overseeing 8-12 direct-reporting Lilly technical associates and contingent workers. Responsibilities include supervision, safety, performance, and development; delivering automation and control solutions; and providing technical leadership to sites, supplier management, and major project delivery within Lilly’s highly automated manufacturing networks.

Responsibilities

• Lead HR processes, including performance management, compensation management, reward and recognition, talent assessment, promotion, recruiting, and succession planning. Coach and develop team members.
• Process Automation/Control Discipline and Technical Leadership ‚Äì Partner with peer groups and manufacturing sites on innovation, solution assessments, reuse/replication opportunities, and concept development. Manage tools, engineering standards, master specifications, and best practices.
• Support or lead Lilly‚Äôs Automation Leadership Council, develop working relationships with site automation leaders for initiatives and human resource planning.
• Knowledge Sharing ‚Äì Provide technical coaching and mentoring to Lilly engineers. Document learning through peer-reviewed technical documents. Facilitate shared learning forums such as conferences and user groups.
• Optimization and Control ‚Äì Increase the benefits of process automation and control solutions while driving life-cycle costs down. Apply process automation solutions to meet site, network, and business unit objectives for productivity, quality, and cost.
• Project Delivery ‚Äì Support major capital project delivery with design and subject matter experts. Drive efficiencies in the delivery of automation and controls. Partner with new and existing site leadership to develop and build an automation organization to support both delivery and operations.
• External Influence and Benchmarking - Monitor and influence, when appropriate, changes in external codes and standards on Lilly‚Äôs behalf, and work to ensure ongoing compliance within Lilly.
• Develop, support, and own Global Programs ‚Äì lead initiatives that impact one or more of Lilly‚Äôs manufacturing networks.
• Supplier management ‚Äì participate in key relationship management including master service agreements, executive meetings, and technology evaluation.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor‚Äôs degree in engineering or related science field
• Required: Minimum 5+ years of pharmaceutical manufacturing experience in engineering or related functional area. Some considerations could be made for experience in other manufacturing sectors.
• Required: Minimum 3+ years‚Äô experience in Process Automation/Control engineering.
• Required: Previous supervisory experience or demonstrated technical leadership.
• Preferred: Experience in data systems, historians, and reporting platforms.
• Preferred: Experience with DeltaV DCS platforms.
• Preferred: Ability to collaborate across diverse teams and cultures.
• Preferred: Experience in Capital project delivery, project management, and supplier management.
• Preferred: Technical expertise in one or more automation platforms.
• Preferred: cGMP Regulatory knowledge in process or automation engineering.
• Preferred: Experience in formal leadership.

Additional Requirements

• This position supports Lilly‚Äôs API and Dry Products network globally and may require US and OUS travel as well as off-hour meetings due to time zone differences.
• Travel: Domestic and international travel typically not exceeding 10-20%
• Work Schedule (typical): Monday through Friday, Day Shift
• This position is based in Indianapolis, IN at Lilly‚Äôs Technology Center South campus.
