Associate Director, FP&A - Clinical Accounting & Data Analysis
Responsibilities
- Shape the financial narrative for Global Clinical Operations and translate complex clinical/financial data into executive-ready insights.
- Build and refine KPIs to predict outcomes, identify risks early, and unlock investment opportunities across the clinical pipeline.
- Scenario-plan the clinical future with senior leadership (where to accelerate/optimize and maximize strategic value).
- Lead evolution of clinical trial accrual and forecasting models (accuracy, automation, scalability).
- Generate predictive insights from integrated clinical/financial data (enrollment trends, cost drivers, timeline risks, resource optimization).
- Deliver variance analysis and forward-looking scenarios to support decisions.
- Influence cross-functionally (Clinical Operations, Accounting, Reporting, HR) to align assumptions and ensure financial discipline.
- Serve as trusted finance partner for strategic guidance and operational problem-solving.
- Collaborate with Reporting & Analytics CoE to pioneer AI/emerging technologies.
- Oversee monthly/quarterly close activities for clinical expenses.
- Maintain audit readiness via SOX controls, documentation, and proactive risk management.
- Champion GAAP compliance across clinical accounting processes.
- Coach and mentor two direct reports; foster continuous improvement and scalable role design.
Qualifications
- Required: 8+ years in FP&A/accounting/finance business partnering; clinical finance expertise in trial lifecycles/costs/enrollment/R&D financial management; GAAP, trial accruals, journal entries, reconciliations, close, and SOX compliance; leadership experience developing talent; ability to drive outcomes across functions.
- Technical skills: advanced financial modeling; variance analysis and KPI development; ERP/planning tools/reporting platforms; advanced Excel; executive communication.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting/Economics or related.
- Preferred: MBA/CPA/CFA or advanced credentials; biotech/pharma/CRO and clinical trial agreement/regulatory milestone experience; SAP/Anaplan/Oracle/Hyperion; Tableau/Power BI and automation; curiosity about AI/ML; strategic thinking.
