Job Description
Associate Director, Category Management - Commercial Procurement will develop and execute strategies for global category areas encompassing Commercial & External Affairs Services to lower total cost of ownership, increase overall value, identify business demand requirements, and deliver the Procurement value proposition across a broad portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and refresh category strategies for Commercial Services & External Affairs (e.g., creative/medical communication agencies, global value & access, digital marketing tech, data analytics, market research) focusing on speed, quality, risk, savings, and innovation (standardization, supplier consolidation).
- Establish and execute stakeholder engagement/governance plans across Commercial, Public Affairs, and Medical Affairs; define business partnering objectives, intake/prioritization, initiatives, and success metrics.
- Identify and drive initiatives with outsized value (demand shaping, operating model improvements, supplier strategy shifts, preferred partner governance, rate/ROD optimization, content production efficiency).
- Oversee category intake/triage model, spend activity, purchase requests, and engagement path/action plan for purchases above procurement involvement thresholds.
- Lead category innovation (external trends to pilots, playbooks, scalable process improvements).
- Collaborate across functions/regions for requirements and projected demand aligned to business priorities; support strategic planning, target setting, and action planning.
- Execute strategic sourcing projects; partner with senior leadership to define supplier objectives (quality, reliability, innovation, cost).
- Monitor KPIs/dashboards and drive procurement impact/value delivery.
- Manage strategic spend above thresholds; integrate diversity and responsible procurement with Supplier Risk, Inclusion, and Sustainability.
- Use sourcing/procurement best practices and standardization while minimizing supply risk.
- Own market intelligence and translate into prioritized improvement initiatives with recommendations.
- Build yearly plans and long-term forecasts for costs, savings, and projects; classify suppliers and manage relationships per standards.
Minimum Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelorโs + 10 years OR Masterโs + 8 years OR PhD + 2 years.
Qualifications/Preferred Requirements:
- 10+ years (BS/BA) or 8+ years (MA/MS or MBA) in business partnering, procurement, commercial/external affairs, strategy & operations, business development, supplier management, or corporate strategy.
- Experience partnering with Commercial/Public Affairs/Medical Affairs communications/marketing; familiarity with creative/media/market research/production and how they measure success.
- Experience in Global Procurement transformation; apply procurement principles/best practices/standards; develop category/sourcing/stakeholder strategies; direct cross-functional teams.
- Supplier relationship management; strong leadership, negotiation, and contract management.
- Procurement/spend systems data analysis; manage multiple projects in a matrixed organization.
