Role Summary

The Area Sales Director Dermatology West leads the development and execution of business strategies for the Dermatology product portfolio at a national level, guiding District Managers to ensure area sales performance meets or exceeds company objectives. This role involves building a new field sales organization for Dermatology and acting as a strategic partner in brand planning, budget & market analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate a team of sales leaders and sales professionals to deliver exceptional sales performance.
  • Recruit, hire and coach District Managers and support the recruitment of high-performing sales professionals.
  • Develop an inspiring vision and a high-performance culture that values results and accountability while driving immediate and long-term results.
  • Foster learning and growth, building capabilities in partnership with HR and Commercial Learning & Development.
  • Provide ongoing performance management with measurable outcomes and actionable development plans.
  • Mentor across the cross-functional Dermatology team and other US Business Units to foster internal talent.
  • Establish relationships with industry professionals and key customers at area and national levels.
  • Manage the area budget, build business cases for investments, and make budgeting/financial decisions with Sales and Marketing leadership.
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration with Marketing, Market Access, Patient Access, Analytics & Insights, Therapeutic Policy & Advocacy, and Medical leadership.
  • Partner with Commercial Learning & Development on leadership, selling skills, and clinical training for Field Leadership Meetings and National Sales meetings.
  • Contribute to performance objectives and incentive plans, and lead communication, performance monitoring, and award plans.
  • Advise Senior Leadership on market trends and competitive information.
  • Uphold high professional standards and foster a culture of ethical behavior and integrity; ensure policy compliance and address issues promptly.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA).
    • 10 years of sales and marketing experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 5 years in a management role (district management, account management, marketing management, product management, etc.).
    • 5+ years of people management with proven ability to achieve sales targets through leadership and strategic planning.
  • Preferred:
    • 2+ years’ experience managing first-line leaders.
    • Experience in dermatology.
    • Clinical or cross-functional experience in training/development, marketing, sales force effectiveness, commercial operations, or related functions.
    • Proficiency with emerging technologies, digital tools, and openness to AI-enabled processes.
