Role Summary
The Area Sales Director Dermatology West leads development and execution of business strategies for the Dermatology portfolio, partnering with District Managers to exceed national sales objectives. This role owns the area strategy, builds a new field sales organization, and acts as a strategic thought partner in brand planning, budget, targeting, and messaging.
Responsibilities
- The Area Sales Director leads development and execution of business strategies to deliver or exceed sales expectations at Area and National levels; motivates a team of sales leaders and professionals.
- Recruit, hire, and coach District Managers and support recruitment of high-performing sales professionals.
- Create a vision and high-performance culture with focus on results, accountability, development; remove barriers and drive a solution-oriented mindset.
- Foster learning and growth, building capabilities with HR and Commercial Learning & Development.
- Provide ongoing performance management with measurable outcomes and actionable development plans.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration across Dermatology, GI, and other US Business Units for talent development.
- Establish relationships with industry professionals and key customers; manage area budget and ROI in line with compliance policies.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Market Access, Analytics, Therapeutic Policy & Advocacy, Medical leadership; align strategies with Sales and Marketing leadership.
- Partner with Commercial Learning & Development to create leadership, selling skills, and clinical training for Field Leadership and National Sales meetings.
- Develop performance objectives and incentive plans; lead communication planning and management of sales incentives and awards.
- Advise Senior Leadership on market trends and competitive information.
- Uphold high professional standards and foster a culture of ethics and integrity across the sales organization.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree – BS/BA
- 10 years of sales and marketing experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 5 years of management-level experience in relevant sectors (pharmaceutical, immunology, biologic/biotech, or medical devices)
- 5+ years of people management with proven ability to achieve sales targets through leadership and strategic planning
- Preferred:
- 2+ years’ experience managing first-line leaders
- Experience in dermatology
- Clinical or cross-functional experience from training and development, marketing, or commercial operations
- Proficiency with emerging technologies, digital tools, and AI-enabled processes
Education
- Bachelor’s degree – BS/BA (required)

- Frequent travel to meetings at customer sites, including overnight travel; ability to attend off-site sales meetings
