Role Summary
The Area Sales Director Dermatology - Central leads the development and execution of business strategies for the Dermatology portfolio to exceed sales targets at a national level. As a second-line leader, this role collaborates with District Managers to ensure area sales performance meets objectives and helps build a new field sales organization for Dermatology.
Responsibilities
- Lead and motivate a team of sales leaders and sales professionals to deliver exceptional sales performance.
- Recruit, hire and coach a team of District Managers and support their recruitment of high-performing sales professionals.
- Develop an inspiring vision and a high-performance culture focused on results, accountability, and development.
- Foster learning and growth, building capabilities in partnership with HR and Commercial Learning & Development.
- Provide ongoing performance management with measurable outcomes, coaching, and development plans.
- Serve as a leader and mentor across cross-functional teams to foster internal talent development.
- Establish relationships with industry professionals and key customers.
- Manage the area budget with prioritization and resource allocation, building business cases for investments.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Market Access, Analytics & Insights, Therapeutic Policy & Advocacy, Medical leadership, and other teams.
- Partner with Commercial Learning & Development for leadership and selling skills training.
- Contribute to performance objectives and incentive plans, and manage communication and metrics for sales incentives and awards.
- Advise Senior Leadership on market trends and competitive information.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree – BS/BA
- 10 years of sales and marketing experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with ≥5 years of management level experience in pharma/biologics/biotech or medical devices (including district/account/marketing/product management)
- 5+ years of people management with proven success in achieving sales targets through leadership and strategic planning
- Preferred:
- 2+ years’ experience managing first-line leaders
- Experience in dermatology
- Clinical or cross-functional experience in training/development, marketing, or commercial operations
- Comfort with emerging technologies, digital tools, and AI-enabled processes
Education
- Bachelor’s degree – BS/BA required

- Travel: Frequent travel to meetings at customer sites, including overnight travel; attend off-site sales meetings
