Role Summary
The Area Sales Director Dermatology – Central leads development and execution of business strategies for the Dermatology portfolio at a national level, guiding District Managers to achieve area and company objectives. This role involves building a new field sales organization, acting as a strategic partner in brand planning, budgeting, and market insights, and leading a diverse, high-performing sales team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of business strategies to deliver or exceed sales targets at Area and National levels; motivate a team of sales leaders and professionals.
- Recruit, hire, and coach District Managers and support recruiting of high-performing sales professionals; foster a high-performance culture with accountability and development.
- Establish a long-term strategic view while delivering immediate results; create an environment of learning, growth, and talent retention.
- Partner with Human Resources and Commercial Learning & Development to build capabilities and development opportunities.
- Provide ongoing feedback and performance management with measurable outcomes; use coaching techniques and development plans.
- Foster career development across cross-functional teams including Dermatology, Gastrointestinal BU, and other US BUs.
- Build relationships with industry professionals and key customers within the Area and Nation.
- Manage the area budget with prioritization and resource allocation; build business cases for investment and budgeting with Sales and Marketing leadership.
- Collaborate across functions (Marketing, Market Access, Patient Access, Analytics & Insights, Therapeutic Policy & Advocacy, Medical) to align strategies and outcomes.
- Partner with Commercial Learning & Development on leadership, selling skills, and clinical training for Field Leadership and National Sales meetings.
- Contribute to performance objectives and incentive plans; lead communication planning and management of sales incentives and awards.
- Advise Senior Leadership on geographical and national marketplace trends and competitive information.
- Model high professional standards and ethical behavior; ensure compliance with policies and regulations and address issues accordingly.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree – BS/BA required
- 10 years of sales and marketing experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 5 years in a management-level role in pharma, immunology, biologic/biotech, or medical device sectors (e.g., district management, account management, marketing management, product management).
- 5+ years of people management with success in achieving sales targets through leadership and strategic planning.
- Preferred:
- 2+ years’ experience managing first-line leaders
- Experience in dermatology
- Clinical or cross-functional experience from training and development, marketing, sales force effectiveness, or commercial operations
- Comfort with emerging technologies, digital tools, and AI-enabled processes
Education
- Bachelor’s degree – BS/BA required

- Travel: Frequent driving or flying to meetings at customer sites, including overnight travel; ability to attend off-site sales meetings
