Area Business Director (ABD)
Primary Responsibilities
Regional Strategy & Business Ownership:
- Own and deliver regional sales performance (team of 4β6 Key Account Managers)
- Translate national strategy into regional/territory execution plans
- Analyze performance trends, market dynamics, and competition to guide strategy/resources
- Set and coach clear performance expectations, KPIs, and accountability frameworks
- Identify risks/opportunities early and adjust strategy to meet goals
- Proactively engage key decision makers (IDN leadership, hospital leadership, infusion clinic leadership, KOLs, other stakeholders)
Leadership, Coaching & Talent Development:
- Lead, coach, and develop KAMs; foster accountability and execution excellence
- Provide hands-on field coaching (joint customer calls, account reviews, real-time feedback)
- Strengthen capabilities in strategic account management and complex selling
- Attract, develop, retain talent; create development plans and succession strategies
- Lead a values-driven culture (integrity, grit, ownership)
Customer & Market Engagement / Execution:
- Maintain executive relationships with key institutions/health systems/KOLs
- Support KAMs with complex accounts and access barriers; engage in critical negotiations
- Ensure compliant execution of marketing/tactical plans; drive CRM/analytics use
- Oversee administrative/compliance activities (T&E, reporting, SOP adherence, Sunshine Act)
- Collaborate cross-functionally (Marketing, Market Access, Medical Affairs)
Qualifications
- Bachelorβs degree required; advanced degree preferred (MBA, MPH, PharmD, or related)
- 10+ years pharmaceutical sales experience
- Proven leadership in specialty pharmaceutical sales with field teams
- Success driving results through others in complex markets
- Strong drug development/commercialization knowledge
- Advanced strategic/analytical skills; strong coaching/communication/influencing
- Matrix leadership experience; cross-functional collaboration ability
- High business acumen, accountability, execution focus
- Preferred: knowledge of targeted geography; experience in institutional/IDN environments; regional/multi-state ownership; established relationships with healthcare systems/KOLs
- Valid driverβs license and clean driving record
- 75% travel required
