Role Summary

Animal Care Technician I (Loading Dock) – The Velocigene team seeks an energetic teammate to contribute to loading dock operations and vivarium cage wash under direct supervision. The role involves receiving and processing incoming products, managing inventory, restocking supplies and PPE, and supporting vivarium operations as needed. Vivarium responsibilities include cleaning cages and equipment, maintaining the facility, and ensuring seamless daily operations.

Responsibilities

  • Receiving and inspecting incoming products, and promptly reporting discrepancies to management.
  • Organizing, labeling, and storing all products and PPE in designated locations.
  • Operating equipment such as manual pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, and drum lifts to safely handle chemicals, while keeping the loading dock clean and organized.
  • Communicating professionally with management, colleagues, and suppliers/vendors.
  • Following instructions carefully and seeking clarification when needed.
  • Demonstrating punctuality, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Cleaning cages, equipment, water bottles, and food containers in the vivarium.
  • Performing janitorial maintenance of vivarium rooms and restocking supplies.
  • Conducting preventative maintenance of vivarium equipment and supplies.
  • Completing monthly sanitization of vivarium equipment and facilities.
  • Maintaining accurate records of supplies and equipment and restocking as necessary.
  • Taking on additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent technical certificate is required.
  • Pursuit of Purina and/or AALAS certification at the ALAT level is desired (required within the first year of employment).
  • A minimum of one year of experience in animal care is helpful but not mandatory.

Work Environment

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, pushing, pulling, and moving supplies and equipment.
  • Extended periods of walking and standing.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Working in environments with potential noise and allergens.

Additional Requirements

  • Weekend and holiday work is required as this role is classified as essential personnel.
