Role Summary

Animal Care and Research Support – technical associate responsible for basic husbandry, handling, restraint and health surveillance of laboratory animals in compliance with regulatory requirements, managing inventory of animal supplies, and providing basic technical assistance (restraint, injections, blood collections) in support of research studies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine animal husbandry duties as directed.
  • Observe and report status of animal health, food and water consumption, appearance, and behavior.
  • Provide support in basic veterinary medical treatment as prescribed by the veterinary staff.
  • Support cage wash equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Support research by providing basic technical services (restraint, dose administration) to research investigators.
  • Work with all species housed at the site.
  • Comply with applicable regulatory standards (e.g., Animal Welfare Act, Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, GLPs, PHS Policy, AAALAC accreditation).

Qualifications

  • Must-Have: High school degree or GED; 2–3 years of related experience.

Physical / Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work standing for extended periods, including lifting items above shoulder level.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical activities (pushing/pulling racks, lifting bags of feed and bedding, reaching, stooping, bending).
  • Pre-hire measles immunity or vaccination required if site includes nonhuman primates.

Additional Requirements

  • Weekend and holiday work required.
  • On-premise work location.
