Position Summary:
The Director, Access & Reimbursement (DAR) leads and coaches a team of Access & Reimbursement Managers (ARMs) responsible for access & fulfillment activities across nephrology healthcare provider accounts and execution of the patient access field reimbursement strategy. Ensures healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers have the information, tools, and resources needed to start and stay on therapy, and fosters compliant cross-functional communications (Patient Experience, Specialty Pharmacy, Market Access, Field Sales).
Responsibilities:
- Hire, mentor, develop, and lead a field access & reimbursement team in local geography.
- Use KPIs/analytics to optimize field execution and expediting patient access.
- Develop long/short-term strategic plans and execute related tactics in a fast-paced environment.
- Create regional vision and team culture; motivate performance and achieve goals.
- Deliver/manage performance, coaching, training, and compliance with regulations/internal policies.
- Address access & fulfillment obstacles (pharmacy benefit, specialty pharmacy, REMS).
- Build and execute a regional business plan to optimize patient initiation and pull-through metrics.
- Ensure cross-functional collaboration and communication with field sales and leadership.
- Manage communication cadence among ARMs, hub services, REMS, specialty pharmacy, and payer account team.
- Support issue resolution via field time and virtual calls; provide feedback and guidance.
- Cultivate key account relationships to foster acceptance of FILSPARI onboarding.
- Train on technical coverage and payer criteria changes; ensure pull-through access/fulfillment messages in engagement.
- Analyze regional performance, identify capability gaps, and coordinate remediation across the organization.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelorโs degree (or equivalent education + applicable experience).
- 10 years pharma/biotech or related experience (specialty pharmaceutical, nephrology, rare disease, REMS preferred).
- 5+ years specialty medicines with deep access & reimbursement landscape knowledge (HUBs, payers, specialty pharmacies).
- 3+ years field reimbursement manager experience.
- 3+ years first-line people leadership with demonstrated coaching/capability development.
Additional Skills/Experience (Preferred):
- Cross-functional experience leading training/operations/payer or access marketing projects.
- Experience with access complexities for new-to-market medications; specialty pharmacy networks.
- Knowledge of private/commercial and government reimbursement (e.g., Medicare Part D, VA) and reimbursement education (benefit verification, prior auth, appeals/denials, letters of medical necessity, pre-determination).
- Computer skills (basic Excel, PowerPoint); strong virtual education/case management ability.
- Strong communication (verbal/written), collaboration, organization, and attention to detail.
- Field-based role: live within region/immediate adjacency of a major airport; valid driverโs license; reliable personal vehicle; travel up to 50%.
