Position Summary:
The Director, Access & Reimbursement (DAR) leads and coaches a team of Access & Reimbursement Managers (ARMs) responsible for access and fulfillment across nephrology healthcare provider accounts and execution of the patient access field reimbursement strategy. Ensures healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers have the information, tools, and resources needed to start and stay on therapy, and fosters compliant cross-functional communications.
Responsibilities:
- Hire, mentor, develop, and lead field access & reimbursement team within local geography.
- Use KPIs/analytics to optimize field execution; deliver strategic planning and tactics.
- Establish regional vision and culture; motivate performance; build customer relationships.
- Manage performance, coaching, training, and compliance with regulations and internal policies.
- Identify and address access/fulfillment obstacles (pharmacy benefit, specialty pharmacy, REMS).
- Develop regional business plan to improve initiation experience and pull-through metrics.
- Lead product access/reimbursement expertise and provide training to the team.
- Coordinate cross-functional collaboration and communication with field sales, hub services, REMS, specialty pharmacy, and payer account teams.
- Support issue resolution via field time and virtual calls; provide feedback.
- Build key account relationships to support FILSPARI onboarding; train on coverage and payer changes.
- Analyze regional performance; identify ARM capability gaps and drive improvement.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelorโs degree in related field (or equivalent).
- 10 years pharma/biotech or related experience (specialty pharmaceutical, nephrology, rare disease, REMS preferred).
- 5+ years specialty medicines access & reimbursement landscape (HUBs, payers, specialty pharmacies).
- 3+ years field reimbursement manager.
- 3+ years first-line team leader with coaching and people development success.
Additional Skills/Experience (Preferred/Required):
- Strong reimbursement process knowledge (benefit verification, prior auth, appeals, denials, letters of medical necessity, pre-determination).
- Experience managing access complexities for new-to-market medication; specialty pharmacy network experience.
- Proven relationship-building with HCPs, office staff, sales, and hub counterparts; understanding of commercial and government reimbursement (Medicare Part D, VA, etc.).
- Computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint); ability to resolve issues virtually.
- Field-based role: live within region/immediate adjacency with major airport; valid driverโs license; reliable vehicle; travel up to 50% (predominantly within region).
